The 1514 memorial in Hawick in the Scottish Borders was unveiled in 1914 and was financed all by public subscription. The horse statue commemorates the victory of local youths over English raiders.
The sculptor Thomas Beattie returned home to Hawick to complete the final details on his memorial in August, 1921, seven years after its unveiling. Work had been interrupted by the outbreak of the war.
