Armstrong Bridge - Framed Ceramic Tile
Armstrong Bridge Framed Ceramic Tile is a beautiful painting of the bridge overlooking Jesmond Dene and the Ouseburn valley, painted by local artist Emily Ward.
In this painting, the perspective of the bridge makes it look as though it is being lifted by the bright and vivid flowers beneath it. The contrast of the dark blue bridge and the multicoloured splatters really highlights the bridge and its importance.
About the Armstrong Bridge
The Armstrong Bridge is made of iron and is now closed to road traffic. It spans the south end of Jesmond Dene and features animal footprints to show the way to Pet’s Corner. Every first and third Saturday of the month, the Jesmond Food Market is hosted on the bridge.
Armstrong Bridge opened after three years of construction in April 1878. It was 550 feet long and the 25 feet wide and was a lattice iron girder bridge. Lord William Armstrong presented the bridge to the people of Newcastle, one of the most remarkable individuals to come out of the city.

The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.
