Bass Rock is situated about 3 miles off the coast of North Berwick in the Firth of Forth. It is a huge carboniferous rock and rises 105 meters above sea level at its highest point.
The rock gets the white glaze from the thousands of garnets that nest there during the breeding season.
Bass Rock lighthouse was constructed in 1902 by David Alan Stevenson. His cousin Robert Louis Stevenson wrote about Bass Rock in his novel ‘Catriona’ in 1893
