The impressive Beverley Minster in the market town of Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, is a fine example of Gothic architect.
The minster was named after the Bishop of York, John who was made a saint after his death. He had founded a monastery on the site in 721.
The original building was destroyed by fire and a new church was built in its place between 1220 and 1425. The new church was a mix of architectural styles including Early English, Decorated and Perpendicular.
