Cheddar Gorge Art Postcard
Cheddar Gorge Postcard
Cheddar Gorge postcard is by North East artist Emily Ward from her art portfolio of the South West.
Glowing rays of golden sunshine shine bright over the impressive landscape of the Cheddar Gorge on Emily's art postcard. Rich oranges and red fill the sky which reflect off the grassy verges.
The steep limescale cliffs shimmer with soft tones of pink inviting you to imagine yourself exploring the gorge. Splashes of Emily's pink paint could be mistaken for the dainty little Cheddar pink flower that grows here.

Cheddar Gorge
Cheddar Gorge in Somerset is regarded as the finest example of a limestone gorge in Britain. The gorge is on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills. The maximum depth of the gorge is 450 feet, with a near-vertical cliff-face to the south, and steep grassy slopes to the north.
The cliffs support many valuable semi-natural habitats and is home to a wide range of plant species, many of them rare.
At the lower end of the gorge are two of Britain's oldest subterranean stalactite show caves. The gorge and caves together attract half a million visitors a year.
The name Cheddar comes from the Old English word ceodor, meaning deep dark cavity or pouch.
