Dark Hedges, Ballymoney
The Dark Hedges
are situated in County Antrim in Northern Ireland between the villages of Armoy and Stranocum, around a 20-minute drive from Portrush.
This beautiful avenue of beech trees were planted by the Stuart family in the eighteenth century. Landscape to impress visitors as they approached the entrance to their Georgian mansion, Gracehill House.
Two centuries later, the tunnel of trees remain a magnificent sight and has become one of the most photographed natural phenomena in Northern Ireland.
The trees form an atmospheric tunnel that has been used as a location in the popular television series Game of Thrones, which has resulted in the avenue becoming a popular tourist attraction.
