The Dark Hedges are in County Antrim in Northern Ireland between the villages of Armoy and Stranocum, around a 10-minute drive from Ballymoney.
James Stuart built Gracehill House in 1775 and named it after his wife, Grace Lynd. The family planted an avenue of over 150 beech trees along the entrance to the Georgian estate. They were intended to be seen as landscape feature that would impress visitors as they approached Gracehill House. Two centuries later, the ethereal tunnel remains a magnificent sight and has become known as The Dark Hedges.
With its mysterious and spectacular play of light and tranquillity the site has inspired visiting artists and photographers. The atmospheric tunnel has been used as a location in the popular television series Game of Thrones which has resulted in the avenue becoming a big tourist attraction.
Open edition prints are signed and titled by the artist.
