Dunstanburgh Castle framed ceramic tile is a beautiful painting by local North East artist Emily Ward. Located on the Northumberland coastline, the castle ruins are shown in the background of the sea.
Emily’s unique white paint splatters create the perfect effect of the sea spray from the waves crashing against the rocks. In contrast to the dark blue shades of the sea is the light sky, and the almost hidden golden beach.
About Dunstanburgh Castle
Dunstanburgh Castle is a massive castle ruins standing on a remote headland in Northumberland.
Lancaster began the fortress in 1313, and was strengthened by John of Gaunt who converted the twin towered gatehouse into a keep. During the War of the Roses, the castle was twice besieged and captured by Yorkists and since fell into decay.
Dunstanburgh Castle can be reached from the beautiful village of Craster, which attracts many visitors as it is in such an impressive coastal setting.
