Durham Cathedral framed ceramic tile is a gorgeous painting by local artist Emily Ward, showing both the Cathedral and the stunning reflection in the river.
The mass of trees and bushes almost hides the Cathedral but it still remains the focus of the painting, as well as the riverside. Emily has used bright colours to show a sunny day in Durham, with the blue sky being mirrored in the water.
About Durham Cathedral
Durham Cathedral was built in 1093 and since has been a place of pilgrimage and worship. It holds some of the UK’s most intact surviving monastic buildings and also unique objects like the treasures of St Cuthbert.
The romanesque architecture of Durham Cathedral makes the structure really interesting, as well as the gorgeous stained glass windows. Most other important Norman buildings in Britain were modified, often beyond recognition but Durham Cathedral survived which is why it is so special.
It is the seat of the Bishop of Durham and is the fourth-ranked bishop in the Church of England. A key part of the Cathedral is the house of the remains of St Cuthbert, and now also the remains of the Venerable Bede.
Emily Ward has an extensive gift range of this Durham Cathedral river painting, which can be found HERE.
Ceramic Framed Tile
Each Framed Tile is hand finished by North East Artist Emily Ward. So although your ceramic framed tile is actually a print, no two tiles are identical. Emily hand finishes the tiles by adding extra paint to the ceramic tile.
The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.

Each frame is 27 x 27 x 5cm
Colours may vary as each tile is printed individually.
