a world famous icon of Scotland and the second most visited paid attraction in the UK. It forms part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh's World Heritage Site. Built during the 12th century by David I the son of Saint Margaret of Scotland.
Standing proud on Castle Rock, which was formed after a volcano erupted 340 million years ago. The original castle that was on the rock was known as "The Castle of the Maidens". Castle Rock has been a royal residence and military base for centuries.
