Elvet Bridge - Framed Ceramic Tile

Elvet Bridge Framed Ceramic Tile is a gorgeous painting by local North East artist Emily Ward. Emily has created the reflection of the four arches in the River Wear as well as the actual medieval bridge.

Durham Cathedral also appears in the background of this painting, almost hidden in the beautiful green plants and trees. The use of stone-like colours such as yellows and whites also enhances the brick work of the Elvet Bridge.

About the Elvet Bridge

Elvet Bridge is a medieval arch bridge that goes across the River Wear in Durham. It is a Grade I listed building, and used to be guarded by a gate and towers. The Bridge is one of three remaining bridges in England to have a house situated on it.

Bishop Pudsey had the bridge built in the late 12th century, and Bishop Fox then had to do repairs in the early 13th century. The bridge is now pedestrianised and leads from the cathedral peninsular to the Elvet side on the east of Durham. A lovely view of the river and the cathedral can be obtained from this bridge, a view that Emily personally loves.

Ceramic Framed Tile

Each Framed Tile is hand finished by North East Artist Emily Ward. So although your ceramic framed tile is actually a print, no two tiles are identical. Emily hand finishes the tiles by adding extra paint to the ceramic tile.

The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.

Each frame is 27 x 27 x 5cm
