St Mary’s Lighthouse Whitley Bay canvas print was an original painting by Emily Ward, a local North East artist. Emily has transferred her painting of this local coastal landmark onto canvas for all to enjoy.
Emily Ward's painting of St Mary’s lighthouse standing proud on the tiny rocky tidal island of St Mary’s, formerly called ‘Bait Island’ really captures the beauty of it. The Keepers’ Cottages can be seen behind the sea spray from the white peaks of the rolling waves covering the little causeway.
About St Mary's Lighthouse Whitley Bay
St Mary’s Lighthouse, now a grade II listed building, was completed in 1898 at the far end of Whitley Bay Beach in North Tyneside. It was decommissioned in 1984 and has operated as a visitor centre since.
The lighthouse is surrounded by a Nature Reserve with many rock pools, clifftop grassland and freshwater ponds providing a rich habitat for marine life and seabirds.
