The Gearrannanan Blackhouses on the Isle of Lewis, is one of the best places to see these long narrow style dwellings, traditionally shared by humans and animals.
The village of Gearrannan has several restored blackhouses and a museum. A few still have a roof . The village of Arnol has blackhouses all over and one has been restored since the occupants moved out in the 1960's. The building gives a very good impression of what life was like to live in a blackhouse.
