Gearrannan Blackhouses, Isle of Lewis
These ancient homes were shared by both animals, people and smoke from the peat fire. People tended to live at one end and the aniamals partitioned off at the other end. They would however share the same door. Grains and other produce was also stored in part of the blackhouse.
