The North Yorkshire town of Guisborough's skyline, proudly boasts the dramatic ruins of the magnificent Augustinian priory. Today all that remains is the tall tower of Gisborough Priory which sits admirably within the town, offering a taste of outstanding gothic architecture.
The original priory was founded in 1119 by Robert de Brus, on land bequeathed by William the Conqueror. The priory was rebuilt on a grand scale at the end of the 12th century and again after a catastrophic fire in 1289.
