Herd Groyne - Framed Ceramic Tile
Herd Groyne framed ceramic tile is one of many stunning North East paintings by local artist, Emily Ward.
Emily has used a deep red shade to paint the unique sculpture of the lighthouse overlooking the North Sea. In the background you can see both Tynemouth Priory and Collingwood Monument, both protected by the lighthouse.
Emily’s use of white paint splatters creates the effect of sea spray, representing the waves crashing against the rocks and how powerful they are.
About Herd Groyne
Built in 1882, Herd Groyne used to be located at the mouth of the river before the north and south piers were created. It stands on 12 iron legs and the center is of utmost importance as it has a steel casing to provide for the foghorn mechanism.
By 1962 it had to be encased in concrete to protect it, but the lighthouse impressively survived the Second World War. Today it is still used as a navigational tool and is owned by the Port of Tyne Authority. It acts as a symbol of North Shields and is a great landmark.

Ceramic Framed Tile
Each Framed Tile is hand finished by North East Artist Emily Ward. So although your ceramic framed tile is actually a print, no two tiles are identical. Emily hand finishes the tiles by adding extra paint to the ceramic tile.
The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.
Frames are available in White and Black Frames.
Each frame is 27 x 27 x 5cm
Colours may vary as each tile is printed individually.
