Herd Groyne print was initially painted as an original painting by local North East artist Emily Ward.
Emily has painted this very unusually shaped vibrant red hexagonal lighthouse with the dramatic view of Tynemouth Priory and Collingwood monument in the background.
The dark blues of the North Sea and the varying shades of green on the riverside add depth, mystery to this South Tyneside landmark.
About the Herd Groyne
Groyne pier, which the lighthouse stands proud at the Mouth of the Tyne, was built around the 1860’s. Standing on twelve iron legs the Herd Groyne lighthouse was completed around 1867. Herd was the original name for the stretch of beach beside it; this beach is now known as Littlehaven.
