Low Lights - Framed Ceramic Tile
Low Lights Framed Ceramic tile is a beautiful painting by local North East artist Emily Ward. This scene of the Low Lights stands out protecting the Fish Quay of North Shields.
Emily’s use of grey tones in the sky create a powerful shadow over the deep blue river. She also includes splashes of white to create a similar effect to the sea spraying against the deck.
About the Low Lights
The High and Low Lights of North Shields are now decommissioned, but were the first set of lights built in the 16th century to help navigate the River Tyne and avoid the dangerous Black Middens.
They were initially lit by three tallow candles, and then oil lamps but now are out of use and the white facade of the low light has been painted black.
The Low Lights are situated on North Shields Fish Quay, which is a fishing port close to the mouth of the River Tyne.

Ceramic Framed Tile
Each Framed Tile is hand finished by North East Artist Emily Ward. So although your ceramic framed tile is actually a print, no two tiles are identical. Emily hand finishes the tiles by adding extra paint to the ceramic tile.
The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.
Frames are available in White and Black Frames.
Each frame is 27 x 27 x 5cm
Colours may vary as each tile is printed individually.
