This 800 acre site features the largest Cistercian abbey ruins in Europe, 18th century landscaped gardens, and a Jacobean mansion.
Octagon Tower is on Constitution Hill and was built in the mid 1730s to provide a great vista over the Georgian water gardens.
This two storey octagon shaped tower was said to have originally been built in a Classical style, and was Gothicised later. The gardens were designed by John Aislabie in 1718 and later expanded by his son William.
