Penrith Beacon Postcard

Penrith Beacon postcard is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of North West art postcards. This postcard has been created from original art by Emily.

Emily’s art postcard of Penrith Beacon has a vibrant and dreamy quality that is bursting with sunlight.

The iconic stone tower has been silhouetted against a radiant, swirling sun that lights up Beacon Hill.

Emily’s characteristic paint splashes blend into the dainty little pink, yellow and white flowers in the foreground.

Penrith Beacon

Penrith Beacon is on Beacon Hill Cumbria and is a stone built monument that dates back to 1719. The beacon was used to warn locals of an impending attack, so the inhabitants and their livestock in the surrounding area could take shelter. The beacon is a Grade I listed building.

There was probably a similar structure on the same site from 1296 and was part of a chain of Beacons that ran through the Eden Valley.

The last time the beacon was last lit was during the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745.
