Puffin
The popular puffin has beautiful markings, a striking coloured bill, it is a bird known to most. Often referred to as a sea parrot, locally in Northumberland, the bird is known as a 'Tommy Noddy'. Male and females look almost identical with the male often being slightly larger.
Their short wings which are adapted for swimming with a flying technique used underneath the water. When in the air the puffins wings can beat rapidly up to 400 times in a minute.
