The historic Richmond Castle overlooks the River Swale in North Yorkshire. From the castle which sits on a hill it provides beautiful views of the Yorkshire Dales.
Originally built in 1071 to subdue the unruly North of England, it is now one of the greatest Norman Fortresses in Britain. The castle was left derelict in the early 16th century and was derelict for nearly 300 years.
Richmond Castle is a Grade I listed building and is one of the finest 11th century fortresses in the country.
In the late 18th and early 19th century artists such as JMW Turner were inspired by the castle.
