Richmond Castle framed ceramic tile has been designed from original art by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.
The castle is painted in warm, reddish tones, contrasting with the bright, radiant background that suggests a setting or rising sun.
The foreground features a meadow filled with colorful wildflowers, including pink, white, and yellow blooms, giving the scene a lively and cheerful atmosphere.

Richmond Castle is managed by English Heritage and is one of the best-preserved Norman castles in the UK. Construction began on the castle in the 1070s by Alan Rufus who had fought at the Battle of Hastings alongside William the Conqueror.
In the 12th century, Duke Conran, his great nephew built the keep and extended the castle. The keep was 100 feet tall and served as a symbol of the castle’s power and also as a defensive structure.
Richmond Castle was left derelict in 1540 and remained in ruins for 300 years.
Richmond Castle is one of the oldest stone-built castles in England.
