Ripon Cathedral
has a history stretching back almost fourteen centuries. The cathedral in North Yorkshire is in the unspoilt city of Ripon, which is steeped in history.
The magnificent medieval cathedral is home to an Anglo-Saxon crypt which dates back to 672AD. It is the oldest intact structure of any English cathedral that is still in use today. The present church was founded by Saint Wilfrid around 672, although it has been rebuilt several times since.
The cathedral is known architecturally for its Early English Gothic west front and Geometric east window.
