Spanish City framed ceramic tile has been beautifully hand-painted by local North East artist Emily Ward. The unique dome shaped building is surrounded by a warm yellow sky, illuminating the white on the dome.
Emily’s splashes of white paint add character to the painting, and could also represent the nearby sea and crashing waves. The yellow at the forefront of the tile could either be for the nearby flowers on Links Field, or the golden sand appearing from Whitley Bay Beach.
About Spanish City
Opening in 1910, Spanish City was made as a smaller version of Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach. When it first opened, it had a concert hall, restaurant, roof garden and a tearoom. A ballroom was added in 1920 and also a funfair.
Now a Grade II listed building, it is well known for its distinctive dome and Renaissance-style frontage. Spanish City faces the sea, and today is home to Trenchers Restaurant, voted the Best Fish and Chip Restaurant in UK 2020, and also Valerie’s Tearoom and Champagne Bar.

Ceramic Framed Tile
Each Framed Tile is hand finished by North East Artist Emily Ward. So although your ceramic framed tile is actually a print, no two tiles are identical. Emily hand finishes the tiles by adding extra paint to the ceramic tile.
The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.
Frames are available in White and Black Frames.
Each frame is 27 x 27 x 5cm
Colours may vary as each tile is printed individually.
