The Alnwick Garden Cherry Blossom Orchard postcard is from an original painting by North East artist Emily Ward.
Emily Ward's art postcard shows off the beautiful, delicate blossom lining the walkway in this famous orchard. The pinks, blues and pinks of the Taihaku blossom are mesmerising.

The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland is home to the largest collection of Taihaku Cherry Blossom trees in the world.
The story goes that a Captain Collingwood Ingram also referred to as 'Cherry' Ingram visited Japan to give a lecture to the Cherry Society. He was shown a picture from an 18th century book of a white cherry blossom tree, which was thought to be extinct.
Captain Collingwood recognised it and placed it to a tree in Sussex, that had been imported in 1899. He returned to Sussex, took some cuttings and returned to Japan to plant and reintroduce the Taihaku tree in 1932.
All the Taihaku trees in Alnwick Gardens originate from that tree in Sussex.
