The Major Oak framed ceramic tile has been designed from original art by North East artist Emily Ward. All ceramic tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.
Emily's painting of the Major Oak at Sherwood Forest, shows off the massive, gnarled trunk and widespread branches which are covered in bright green leaves. The foreground is filled with colourful splashes of dainty pink, purple and white flowers which creates a meadow-like effect around the base of the tree.
The background features a soft, textured sky painted with hues of blue and white which adds depth and atmosphere.

The Major Oak , an iconic symbol of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, is a legendary tree steeped in history and folklore. The ancient oak tree is said to be over 1000 years old and has a trunk circumference of nearly 33 feet.
The massive oak has a sprawling canopy supported by wooden props which help to preserve this impressive tree.
The tree is renowned for it's association with legendary outlaw Robin Hood, who according to folklore, used it as a meeting place with his band of Merry Men.
The Major Oak is not named because of its huge size. In 1790, soldier and antiquarian Major Hayman Rooke (1723-1806) wrote a book detailing the oak trees of the area and people began to refer to it as the Major Oak in his honour.
