The Major Oak, Sherwood Forest Open Edition Print
The Major Oak open edition art print is by North East artist Emily Ward. This lovely art print is also available framed.
Emily's art print of the Major Oak has clusters of pretty little pink flowers that cover its ancient roots. A splash of colour from the dainty flowers, add a warming contrast to the massive gnarled branches covered in bright green leaves that entwine together.
Wispy clouds that have a soft texture and tones of blue add an air of mystery to the folklore that surrounds this tree.

Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire is home to the legendary ancient Major Oak. With over 1000 years of history, the branches have grown and spread up to 28 meters. The old oak tree has also been referred to as the Queen’s Oak and Robin Hood’s Oak.
In 2022, the Major Oak was selected to be one of 70 trees from around the UK, to take its place in the Queen’s Green Canopy. This was a 70th Jubilee programme to inspire the planting of new trees across the country.
The Major Oak is at the heart of folk tales of Robin Hood and his band of merry men. Their heroic acts defending the poor bring an air of mystery to these ancient woodlands that he once roamed.
