Tommy Statue Seaham - Framed Ceramic Tile
Tommy Statue Seaham framed ceramic tile was inspired by local North East artist Emily Ward. As a powerful World War One memorial statue, Emily has surrounded the statue with bright red poppies, adding a deeper meaning to the painting.
The warm shades in the sky also add a dramatic effect to the statue, with the sun reflecting off the soldier's helmet.
About Tommy Statue
Located on Terrace Green by the Seaham seafront, Tommy is a statue of a First World War soldier. The soldier sits on an ammunition box and holds a grounded rifle. The official name is 1101, in regards to the first minute of peace as the armistice happened at 11am on the 11th of November but it is commonly known as Tommy.
Tommy was intended to be on display temporarily in May 2014, but local residents raised the funds to buy it. It was relocated onto a paved platform, and a time capsule was buried underneath. Interestingly, the word Tommy can refer to any other First World War soldier statue.
Emily’s powerful framed tile of Tommy in Seaham can be found HERE , as well as many more of her North East paintings.
