Tower of Refuge framed ceramic tile has been designed from original artwork by North East artist Emily Ward. All tiles are printed and hand pressed in Emily's art studio, where she hand finishes every tile.

Tower of Refuge
The Tower of Refuge
is a stone-built castellated structure which was erected on Conister Rock otherwise known as St Mary's Isle in Douglas Bay on the Isle of Man. The main purpose was to offer shelter to mariners shipwrecked on the rock.
The partially submerged reef that the landmark tower stands on, was previously often responsible for the damage and sinking of ships. The tower provided both a visible warning for incoming ships and a refuge for those in distress
The stone tower was constructed in 1832 after William Hillary, the founder of the RNLI, petitioned for a sanctuary to be built there.
Ceramic Framed Tile
Each Framed Tile is hand finished by North East Artist Emily Ward. So although your ceramic framed tile is actually a print, no two tiles are identical. Emily hand finishes the tiles by adding extra paint to the ceramic tile.
The framed tile appears as if it is floating inside the frame.
Frames are available in White and Black Frames.
