Tower of Refuge greeting card is from North East artist Emily Ward's beautiful range of art cards of landmarks on the Isle of Man. This greeting card has been created from original artwork by Emily. All greeting cards are printed locally in Newcastle.
The historic refuge stands proud on the little partially submerged island in the Irish sea. Sea spray splashes up against the aged stonework.
Subtle tones of lilac cast a warming tone to the cloudy skyline.

The Tower of Refuge is a stone-built castellated structure which was erected on Conister Rock otherwise known as St Mary's Isle in Douglas Bay on the Isle of Man. The main purpose was to afford shelter to mariners shipwrecked on the rock.
The partially submerged reef that the landmark tower stands on, was previously often responsible for the damage and sinking of ships. The tower provided both a visible warning for incoming ships and a refuge for those in distress
The stone tower was constructed in 1832 after William Hillary, the founder of the RNLI, petitioned for a sanctuary to be built there.
