Tower of Refuge keyring has been created from original art by Newcastle artist Emily Ward. The art keyrings are all printed and hand pressed locally in Emily's studio.
This landmark tower stands tall on the partially submerged reef surrounded by sea foam from the Irish Sea .
Slight orange tones over the turrets stand out under the cloud filled sky.
To view the full range of art keyrings please see here.
The primary purpose was to offer shelter to mariners shipwrecked on the rock and to provide a visible warning to incoming ships. The tower was kept well stocked with fresh water and bread, and had a bell to call for help.
The tower was constructed after William Hillary, the founder of the RNLI, petitioned for a sanctuary to be built there.
