Treasurer’s House
has long been regarded as one of the most prestigious properties in York. It was completely rebuilt in a fashionable style in the late 16 th
century. It hosted an event for a visit by James I in 1617.
The house passed through many owners and residents over the centuries, including the famous writer and literary hostess Elizabeth Montagu and the astronomer John Goodricke.
Frank Green a wealthy industrialist was attracted to the rich heritage of the house and bought it in 1897. He transformed the three adjacent properties into one large show home.
