Tynemouth Artist Emily Ward was brought up in Tynemouth. She moved from London in the early 70’s. Her mum and Dad were both practising artists in London but finding work was hard.
Emily’s parents eventually decided to move to Tynemouth after her dad was offered employment at Sunderland University as a lecturer.
Emily’s mum and Dad soon became known as the Tynemouth Artists. They based their paintings on the rough sea and Tynemouth landscape. They soon settled into the Tynemouth lifestyle and made lots of new friends who were also artists based in Tynemouth.
Emily was brought up surrounded by their paintings of Tynemouth and even as a young child started to copy her mum and dad’s style, composition and colour.
Going forward 40 years Emily’s painting of Tynemouth Pier was one of her first commissions as an artist from Tynemouth.
Her skill lies in the techniques she uses to depict the rough sea at Tynemouth. Her splashing technique adds movement to the waves which crash against the walls of Tynemouth Pier.
Artists gather in Tynemouth to paint the amazing local iconic scenes such as Tynemouth Priory. Award winning Longsands Beach and Tynemouth Pier. Artists based in Tynemouth can often be seen at Tynemouth Market. This is a hot spot for artists to sell their artwork. The market runs every Saturday and Sunday and is packed with artwork from and around the North East.
After 30 years of living in Tynemouth. Tynemouth Artist Emily Ward moved to North Shields. She lives happily with her 3 children and after living there for 20 years she is happy and settled. She no longer describes herself as a Tynemouth artist but an artist based in North shields.
